Artist Statement
The first time I painted coins was in my thesis year at the art university back in 2014, and the main reason was that I was always interested in showing smaller objects on a bigger. With this interest I chose coins to be my subject as they are beautiful little sculptures with a variety of rusty colors, relief form and tiny details. It’s easier to deliver different ideas such as dominance, money, education, poverty or important events in the history by incorporating the coins in my art. The donut, a comfort food which symbolizes the West in my work and the coin under it is representing Pakistan. I enjoy creating surrealistic visuals and try to give something thoughtful to the viewers.
